Count Visitors Hit Counter Troubleshooting

While we have designed our free hit counter program to be as simple and user friendly as possible, occasionally there are problems. Some of the most common problems and their solutions are listed below:

Problem: "I tried to follow the directions, but there is all this html code all over my page. What's wrong?"

Solution: If you are seeing any html code at all on the page that you have added the counter too, the code was added as text to the page, and not to the code of the page. Because of this, the browser is displaying the code to your counter, instead of your counter. To solve this issue, you will need to take the code that you see and add it to the code portion of your page; this can be done either in a text editor, your html editor, or by following the instructions to edit code provided by your hosting choice.

Problem: "The counter doesn't update when I hit refresh. I want to know how many times people are seeing my pages!"

Solution: If you would like to see how many times your page was viewed, regardless of how many people were doing the viewing, you need to select 'Pageviews' from the option ("What Do You Want Us to Count:") when setting up your counter. If you are not seeing this, you need to visit our home page and signup again, making sure that the button next to 'Pageviews' is selected. Then take the code you are provided and add it to your page.

Problem: "All I ever see is a little box with a red x in it. What's wrong?"

Solution: If you are just setting your counter up and you have not uploaded it yet, this is normal. The counter will correct itself when it is uploaded. If this is happening after you have already followed all of the installation procedures, you may have a piece of code that has been corrupted. Simply sign up for another hit counter and re-copy and paste the new code, being sure to place it into the code portion of your page.

Problem: "My counter was working just fine until yesterday. Now it's not. What's wrong?"

Solution: If your counter suddenly stops working, you or your hosting solution provider may have inadvertently made a small change of one sort or another to your counter code. This can stop it from functioning properly. To solve the issue, simply sign up for a new hit counter and re-copy and paste the new code. Make sure to place it into the code portion of your page.

These are the most common issues that our users have experienced in the past. If the answer to your question isn't shown above, feel free to use our contact form by clicking on the Contact link on our home page and ask us directly. We will get back to you as soon as possible!
